Gonzo | The different forms of Gonzo

Gonzo Sex, Gonzo Philosophy, Gonzo the Muppet, Gonzo Journalism, Gonzo State of Mind
And All Things Gonzo

Hunter S. Thompson is the father of all things Gonzo. The word Gonzo has morphed into different arts and ways of thinking especially if you've taken Shrooms, drank Lidocane and free-based Chilean Peyote.

The Many sides of Gonzo.
Gonzo Philosophy- a discipline comprising the wisdom and antics of obscene, outlandish and extreme behavior.
Gonzo Journalism-  style of journalism where writer's participation in the activity is being documented.
Gonzo Sex or Porn-  similar to journalism, mainly done in first person however not stuck in first person (POV) view, could extrapolate into different shots.
Gonzo the Muppet-  the blue bug eyed bird who has phallic symbol for a nose.
Gonzo State of Mind-  the mood or personality of an anarchist or a person unwilling to bend to conventional terms or standards of behavior.  Sticking with Hunter S. Thompson, not breaking the law and purposely get caught but reasoning that you are for the greater good for your one kind.  Acting very strange, eccentric, or unusual but still having the capacity to drink your beverage without drooling or soiling yourself.

Hunter S. Thompson is a literary God.
How and Why I consider myself
Gonzo.
One of my high school teachers wrote on one of my papers, "Bombastic, made me laugh like Hunter S. Thompson."  I did not know who they were talking about.  I asked them the following day who was Hunter S.  Thompson?  Teachers are sly and I should have not bit at their reference to him.   Hunter S. Thompson turned out to be my next assignment.

Hunter S. Thompson is a literary God.  I was amazed, bamboozled, flummoxed in anticipation of every word that dripped off the page smelling of expensive whiskey and cheap cigarettes.   This man is a total maniac and I liked him.

Notice my teacher said made her laugh like Hunter S. Thompson and they did not say write.   I now had a new favorite writer, that I could add to my hall of fame of Stephen King, Mark Twain, J.R.R. Tolkien and David and Leigh Eddings.  That assignment was probably the only assignment I enjoyed.

In college, one of my Anthropology professors made a reference to Hunter S. Thompson on one of my papers.  Now making a reference to Hunter S. Thompson does not state in any way that you write like the man.   There is only one Hunter S. Thompson and any writer who tries to mimic his style comes off as stale potato chips.   Oh it might look good, but it does not have the crunch factor and the words don't have the zest.     I was honored and thanked my teacher for the comment and they were pleasantly surprised I knew who they were talking about.  I had a "B" in that class at that time but after that I worked a little harder and pulled it up to an "A" for my final grade.  This class was about Early Meso-Americans Civilizations of Central America, and most of the answers were about religion and sex.    Funny how those themes still permeate today.

Now here is where I got the Gonzo tag.  I don't even know when the term "Gonzo" was invented.   I wrote Resurrected Has-Beens and gave it to a friend to read.  They were incarcerated and  had some considerable time on their hands.   It was my first draft and I couldn't do him any more psychiatric harm.  Thank God for booze and loose women, my novel would seem tame.   He told me it was "Gonzo".  I didn't exactly know what he meant.  I knew the word, Gonzo but, I was thinking the Muppet rather than being stale potato chips.   Telling a man your writing reminds them of an unpleasant looking bird with a banana-dick for a nose is disheartening. He then told me what my book reminded him of Hunter S. Thompson because of the  drugs, gangs, hotels.  I thanked him and thought he was the third person who made that analogy but not in such a creepy, drugged-out, banana-dicked ,fashion.

I had been given a "Gonzo" tag a long time ago when it may or may not have even existed.   I do not write gonzo journalism.  Gonzo and Gonzo journalism are two different things.  Gonzo is a sense of being, philosophy, a way of looking at life.   I have since became aware of Gonzo sex.  I would look it up and try to define it.  If I did I might find out my incarcerated friend was describing my book in sexual terms and positions.  I'm not sure if I could mentally deal with that.   So it is what it is.  I concede, I am Gonzo.
Hunter S. Thompson, I salute you.   Gonzo Sex, I hope you and Gonzo the Muppet bird find a sexy chicken.
